History of Catalli Insurance
Catalli Insurance was founded in 1960 by Anthony J. Catalli, who began the business out of his family home. After working as a claims adjuster in San Francisco, Anthony was unexpectedly forced into a career change at age 42 when his company downsized in favor of a “youth movement.” With seven children at home and his wife, Lotte, working the graveyard shift as a nurse, Anthony set out to build a new path—launching his own independent insurance agency.
In the early years, Anthony went door to door offering insurance quotes, often after dropping his children off at the local park. His dedication, personal approach, and deep commitment to serving clients’ needs helped him steadily grow his clientele. This one-on-one, client-first philosophy became the foundation of Catalli Insurance and remains at the heart of the company today: personalized service and steadfast advocacy for every client’s insurance needs.
By the mid to late 1970s, Anthony’s sons, Paul and Peter, joined the business, contributing to the agency’s expansion. With Lotte now managing bookkeeping, the family opened an office in San Mateo, where Catalli Insurance continues to operate.
The 1980s and 1990s were marked by continued growth as Paul and Peter took on leadership roles and expanded the team. Following Anthony’s passing in 2006, Catalli Insurance had become one of the top Mercury Insurance producers in Northern California. In 2018, Paul Catalli retired after decades of service.
In 2008, Anthony’s grandson, Tony Catalli, joined the agency after graduating from college, proudly becoming the third generation to carry the family tradition forward. Today, Tony serves as a principal and leading producer, helping guide the company into its next chapter.
More than 60 years after its founding, Catalli Insurance remains grounded in the same values that shaped its beginning: understanding each customer’s needs, providing expert guidance, and delivering high-quality insurance solutions with genuine, personal service.
